Myrtle Beach received $24,928,500 in federal emergency funding through Flood Control and Coastal Emergencies (FCCE) to cover 100% of the beach fill element of the project, the city confirms. Once Hurricane Florence passes, renourishment will relaunch at Withers Swash, with pipes headed toward 29th Avenue South. Instead of beginning in Myrtle Beach, the contractor is demobilizing and removing equipment from the beach, in advance of the now Category 2 storm. The next phase of the $34 million project will be halted until Hurricane Florence is no longer a threat to the coast. The contractor, Great Lakes Dredge and Dock, finished work in Garden City and Surfside Beach this weekend, according to a post from the City of Myrtle Beach. MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – The likelihood that Hurricane Florence will make landfall somewhere along the Carolina coast has put the Myrtle Beach renourishment project on hold.
